  • SIN to Milan to Barcelona

    Hi folks,
Travelling SIN to Barcelona (stop over in Milan) for the first time on 1 March red eye.
Like to check if during the stop over, passengers get off the plane or stay on the plane ?
If getting off the plane, any opportunities to buy branded stuff like armani or prada at the airport ?
    thanks

    regards
    Acey

Passengers get off or stay on the plane. There is no boarding as SQ has no traffic rights between MXP and BCN. No stop-over possible, you need to buy your goodies in BCN :-)

So this route functions in a similar way as SIN-MUC-MAN? I wanted to clarify as I have flown SIN-BCN before but not via MXP, rather on SQ68 which continues to GRU.

Only people disembarking at MXP gets to leave the plane. Everybody else stays on board.

It is only a brief stop in MXP enroute to BCN.

Same for the return. Pax stay onboard while at MXP

No, I think the two function in opposite ways. You definitely cannot buy an MXP-BCN ticket with SQ and nobody joins the plane.

SQ list MAN-MUC in their PDF timetable as a 2 hour direct flight so I assume one can buy tickets.

(There's an expert on here who will tell us sooner or later! )

SQ publishes fares between MAN-MUC and has traffic rights.

In SQ's press release about fuel surcharge reductions, there is a footnote stating that flights between Germany and the UK carry the same surcharge as flights between Singapore and South East Asian gateways, but nothing about flights between Italy and Spain. Presumably then, one can book MUC-MAN but not MXP-BCN.

I've seen on GDS that for flight SQ368/367 SIN-MXP-SIN Singapore Airlines will add a 4th weekly frequency starting from the last week of March 2016. The new flight will be operated on Tuesdays. It's the first time that Tuesdays SQ368/367 operates on regular basis for the entire Summer season.

Overall Milan will be served 6 weekly, including flights SIN-MXP-BCN and vice versa. I hope that this is the way to restore daily and year-round service to Milan.

One thing that I noted is that flight SQ378 departs before midnight on Tuesdays and this means that Singapore Airlines will operate two flights on Tuesdays from Singapore (SQ368 departing at 2.05 and SQ378 departing at 23.35). I don't know if it is better to re-schedule SQ378 departure time, e.g. at 0.05 in order to have a Wednesdays departure (flight SQ377 in this case will return in Singapore at 7.30, instead of 7.00, enough time to catch connections, I guess).

Back when MXP-BCN was a daily it was always at the same time until they started the GRU flights. I thought the various flight times that happen currently were due to problems getting landing slots. If that's still the case it must be at MXP. I would think as Spanair's demise must have freed things up at BCN.

I think that there aren't landing slots problem in Milan, the airport is very big and not very busy at all

The problem is Sunday flight that departs from Milan very late and arrives in Singapore at 10 am; this is owing to flight GRU-BCN-SIN that departs at 10 am from BCN on Sundays, the same time of SQ377 on Wednesdays. In order to avoid two flights departing from BCN at the same time, SQ377 on Sundays is delayed about by 3 hours.

This is the reason that I suggest to separate Milan from Barcelona; I think that would be better to operate a 4 weekly flight SIN-BCN-GRU or if this is not possible, to operate a 4th flight SIN-BCN-SIN without GRU on Wednesdays. For the time being, having two BCN-SIN on Sundays is as a 4 weekly service.
