  • mileage running in Asia

Reading flyertalk, there are a bunch of people who fly just for the miles. Anyone in SQtalk have done/are doing it? All the good deals such as double qualifying miles, etc seem really hard to find on *A in asia.

Personally, I am based in PG and with travel cuts this year, might not re-qualify as KF Gold. Will do the travel just for the miles if price is right..

I think you'll find there are rather a lot of mileage/status runners around here as well.

As far as good deals are concerned, I think it depends on where in Asia you start from and whether the inconvenience/time/cost of getting there (from PG wherever that is ?) is outweighed by the cost saving.

Well my company downgraded its travel policy for short haul flights, and I was just one return C trip short of hitting PPS. So I paid the travel agency the difference between my corporate Y ticket and C, for the cheap thrill of getting PPS lol

Of course! That's why boards like TOF exist! My last hurrah for PPS to qual under the old sector-points system was a SGN-SIN-AMS run. I bleeve for the SGN-SIN portion it was an immediate turnaround at SGN as well and the cabin crew obviously knew what I was up to when they saw me again. Pyoor madness ah tells ye.

Maybe not. Were you in C Class SIN - SGN leg?

Yes I was, though I might have been using points for that leg. The cabin crew welcomed me back by name upon seeing me even before I stepped into the front of the aerobridge. I'm sure that their initial surprise was replaced by a knowing and unspoken "Another nutbar doing a MR".

Milage runs depend on your FPP - do you get double miles for business and/or executive bonuses for certain airlines?

LX is flying you to BKK in C for 690 SGD return - gets me 4.000 miles on LH including SEN bonus. LH is flying me in business to Europe for 120.000 points.

Doing the same with SQ, I am only getting 2.600 miles on KF including PPS bonus. SQ's new J to Europe is 187.000 miles including 15% online bonus.

The best milage run is flying F and putting miles on BD. Start your RTW out of Korea for 12.000 SGD and avoid SQ as it gets you less milage and collect a total of 94.000 miles including executive bonus. Enough for a free F ticket on SQ from SIN to SYD and back :-)

My suggestion would be to forget about Krisflyer and sign up for a decent FFP... I am taking that you would redeem tickets in Y - SQ does not limit access to that inventory from any Star Alliance partner.

Depending on what booking classes / airlines you fly, you should check out British Midland: www.flybmi.com

You can earn miles on fares you do not earn miles with SQ and redeem with all Star Alliance partners.

IIRC, someone did LPP run a while ago.
