  • Last minute upgrade awards?

    Hi Guys,

I've got a long haul trip coming up and I'm wondering if it is possible to snag a last minute upgrade award. The flights list as "wait-listed" but with KVSTools showing only 7 in J available for a flight 40+ days later, it looks very far fetched...

Do anyone know if SQ actually releases seats at the very very last minute for upgrades?? I mean, if there is going to be 1-2 seats available at the end, would upgrading be possible? Cheers.

I have succeeded several times. But not always.

    A phone call often helps.

Depending on what you mean by very very last minute.

SQ does release O/I classes for upgrades at last minute. Sometimes can be up until the day before. SQ, however, doesn't allow airport standby upgrades.

Thanks guys. I'll continue to wait and I'll give SQ a call closer to the dates. Thanks!

I've had my last experience as follows: on the outbound, 14 days prior to flight, and on the return it cleared 7 days prior to flight. MANY phone calls (some I regard as unnecessary) were required.

I have given 3 calls for my SIN-FCO and MXP-SIN flights, and still no budge. While there are only 2 J seats left on the SIN-FCO flight, the MXP-SIN is two-thirds empty.

It's really not much point collecting KF miles unless SQ lets us use them.

Last month, I managed to get an SIN-MXP J saver cleared just 3 days ahead of a flight that was wait-listed for months! Called no less than a half-a dozen times....all gave standard "I will send a chaser" response. Except for the last guy who was really helpful (and wow.... I got a confirmation sms just an hour after that call).

So I think the person on the other end really matters. Keep, keep trying and don't despair. Call more frequently nearer the flight date cos they are more likely to release a seat then.

BTW- J was almost full on that flight (only 2 empty seats in the main J cabin of the 77W). And I think one in the forward cabin only.

Yes, a very familiar phrase. Wonder who actually receives it.

Sometimes I fail to understand why they can't allow us to do 2 level upgrade, like from Y to F. Charge me the full miles if necessary, but if I'm flying on the dime, give me the possibility of upgrading to F. The whole idea is that my company will continue to pay for the taxes, and I will clock Y mileage, but at least I'm flying F and burning my hard earn miles the way I want.

If this is possible, I would have done my upcoming trip in F all the way. Oh well... but thanks everyone for your kind advise!
