Effective 01AUG09 I've just checked in my CRS and the A380 shows both R and F inventory. There is no 'A' class immediately available however it does let you waitlist in A.
Also, the premium for Suites has been removed for all routes! Pity those who shelled out the additional thousand earlier on the Hong Kong sector.
So, in addition to having pizzed off longtime loyal customers with the initial policy, they now want to pizz off everyone who ever paid a premium for having flown R to date. And additionally pizz off future customers who pay R then discover they could have paid F (But without the enhanced benefit of TPR access and an extremely valuable Suites luggage tag?!!)?
Remaining issue now is only the high F/J premium over other quality carriers BUT the F marketing challenge would now have been less of a problem except that, unfortunately, other carriers remain much better value for money in Whalejet F (EK showers, limos, direct boarding from lounge, better food and wines both onboard and in lounges etc) Dragging SQ Management towards a winning business strategy which shows some marketing finesse and sensitivity towards customer loyalty remains like pulling teeth.
This SQ Management team seem to be absolutely clueless?
It just proves that overall Suites as been a failure...as I've said before QF tried exactly the same tactic when they first launched the A380 on the MEL/SYD - LAX - they only released R inventory for the new F product - it lasted exactly 1 week - first they opened F, then A and then redemption seats. They did the same for the SYD-SIN-LHR in Jan this year - once again it didn;t last. I was actually on QF's inaugural A380 SYD-SIN in F class redemption.
Basically, there just isn't enough people willing to pay for the hefty premium to fly suites over F. Just re-check my existing booking, the JKT -> SIN -> Tokyo round trip if Suite class is now going for much more reasonable USD4K instead of the crazy USD8K when I last checked. Now tempted to upgrade It's an overnight flight so at least I get to sleep better. Too bad they don't have my prefered B777-300ER.
