  • Check-In On The Go With "SIA Mobile"

    7 April 2009

Customers travelling on any Singapore Airlines flight now have the added convenience of checking in for their flights anywhere in the world using their Singapore-registered mobile phones1, with the Airline’s latest technological introduction, “SIA Mobile”.

Customers can also check in for connecting flights operated by any of the airlines which Singapore Airlines has check-in agreements with, if the connection is from a Singapore Airlines operated flight.

Through the mobile check-in facility, customers are able to select their seats on Singapore Airlines operated flights, as they would do on the Internet.

The mobile check-in facility is made possible by the Airline’s new “SIA Mobile” application software, designed to provide customers the flexibility of accessing selected Singapore Airlines online services on their mobile handsets. “SIA Mobile” will also be enhanced later this year to include features such as booking of tickets and accessing of selected KrisFlyer services.

To perform mobile check-in and seat selection, all customers would need to do is to key in “m.singaporeair.com” into the web browser of their mobile handsets2 .. They will then be given the option of either downloading the “SIA Mobile” application software onto their handsets or accessing the check-in services directly through their mobile handset’s web browser.

To lead customers through each step of the downloading and check-in process, easy-to-follow instructions have been made available in a specially created link on the Airline’s website i.e. singaporeair.com/mobile.

The “SIA Mobile” Check-In feature is available on all sectors of Singapore Airlines flights. Customers may check in for their confirmed flights using their mobile handsets anytime between 2 and 48 hours before departure.

Said Senior Vice-President Product & Services, Mr Yap Kim Wah, “Checking in for a flight should be simple and convenient. I am pleased that “SIA Mobile” will now meet this need of our customers."

For more details on the SIA Mobile Check-In feature, please visit singaporeair.com/mobile.

1 This applies to prepaid and post-paid SIM cards issued by SingTel, M1 and StarHub only. Roaming charges apply as usual for check-in transactions made out of Singapore. The mobile check-in facility supports phone models by most major mobile phone providers, including Nokia, Samsung, Sony Ericsson and Motorola as well as selected BlackBerry and PDA models. The mobile devices need to be Internet-enabled. For the full list of models supported, visit singaporeair.com.
2 Prevailing GPRS data charges apply and as data charges vary across service providers and service plans, customers are advised to check the details with their own service providers. Estimated data charges for the one-time download of the SIA Mobile software is S$2.20..

I don't know why they are limiting this for Singapore based mobile phone accounts.
CX is launching a very user friendly version (CX Mobile), for everyone!
Painlessly downloaded it to my iPhone.

Seems strange. If it's browser based, then no reason to be limited to Sing-registered mobiles...?

Perhaps SQ is getting a kick-back of the data-roaming charges from the telcos...

You are right...checking in via browser (or application for all that matter) should not matter whether the mobile user is using Singapore registered lines.

As for getting a kick-back of data roaming charges, I strongly doubt it. Operators do not know which sites their subscribers visit when roaming. They just receive a file that says "your subscriber Mr X, consumed 100kb in my network, and that cost $5". What the operator then do is markup 15% (typically) on the $5 and pass it on to their subscriber.

          This is very strange.
I hope one could also have BP sent to the phone, but I guess that'll have to wait?

Air NZ have their service mPass which provides this to domestic flyers in NZ. Not sure if it can be used on International Flights ex NZ

Currently NZ's version is domestic only. I expect Australia will soon be added, and other international destinations later.

For domestic Air NZ I use the ePass instead (RFID tag) as it is much quicker. Just show up at lounge or gate, pass the tag by the reader and I'm in.
