  • Special Upgrade Offer on SQ - limited-time upgrade vouchers

    http://www.singaporeair.com/saa/en_U...s/upgrades.jsp

Fly with us from 1 Apr to 30 Jun 2009, and earn Free Upgrades to any Singapore Airlines Destination.
To enjoy this offer, all you need to do is enrol as a KrisFlyer member. If you are already a member, you will automatically earn Special Upgrade Points on top of the usual KrisFlyer miles - giving you twice the rewards each time you fly.
I'm still trying to figure out how this scheme work, and am still confused. But it is apparent that SQ is looking for ways to improve load in premium cabins.

Basically, you have fly at least 25,00 miles from now till end of June to enjoy anything.

The upgraded classes will be booked on either Saver or Standard Awards.

Does that mean that upgrades to their 'exclusive' biz class on A380 and 77W are eligible?

Special Upgrade Vouchers cannot be used for flight upgrade to the Singapore Airlines Suites.
But suites are still out of bounds

................Whilst still expecting the customer to pay for their mistakes in fuel hedging and maintaing absurdly high fare premiums over other lines.

It tells me something different: that SQ doesn't expect the number of fare-paying pax to reach old levels at least until after Dec 2009.

I think as promotions go, it's rather clever and highly focused. Try to encourage flying during the relatively slow pre-summer months by allowing upgrade points to be earned only during that time. Then focus the redemptions on the rest of the year pre-Christmas rush to try to fill the cabins.

It will be interesting to see whether they add to this (by, e.g., lowering prices) during that period.

I don't think you should even be focusing on the suites by this time. SQ's strategy with that product has been clear from the start: no upgrades to be allowed.

I think that SQ has tried to make their marketing a bit complex to try to make it special.

Essentially, they say they will give 1 round trip upgrade voucher if you fly 25K butt-in-seat on their planes only and the vouchers can be used only on flight including the 77w and A380 but it has to be saver or standard awards. i wonder if it really means 77w and A380 business as well.

But as what keith mentioned elsewhere, it is targetted and specific marketing. Not for the occasional flyer.
The mention of Standard awards should indicate that 77W services and A380 in JCL are included in this offer.

Your reference to a post of mine made in the distant past is out of context. I was commenting specifically on the level of mileage required for the Full awards which seem to be most suited for corporate flyers on generous expense accounts and high credit card spend (pre GFC days).

In this instance, it is hardly strange that a frequent flyer program is having promos for people who fly frequently rather than occasionally.
All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

                      SQ is getting desperate?

This is a sign of desperation. Premium load must be really awful. SQ has never offered free upgrade points/vouchers before, not even during SARS.

I wonder if 77W and A380 Standard awards require double vouchers or not? If not, it is a great offer.

Got me excited for a while, but alas, after reading all the restrictions, it's just not that attractive at all.

While I could knock up 25k miles within those period, but upon checking on what I can redeem/upgrade, it just disappointed. I can only upgrade on flights: -

1*Between a) Bangkok and Tokyo, b) Dubai and Istanbul, c) Dubai and Moscow
2*Between a) Hong Kong and San Francisco, b) Seoul and San Francisco, c) Tokyo and Los Angeles

So for me, it's too complex, too many restrictions, just too bad!

Actually I'm quite confused about the destinations that I can upgrade to. Regardless, no LHR flight upgrades, unless I knock up 50k miles, which is a bit ridiculous. That's about 4 return flights from KUL->LHR in 2 months.

                        WTF.

Where did you get this information?

I read it as upgrade vouchers are valid systemwide. The only thing unclear to me is if Standard awards require double vouchers or not?

Looks good to me... 25k miles gets a r/t ug ex-SIN to Asia, Australia/NZ, South Africa or Turkey....

What is not clear is do you have to book the miles to KF? It only says you need to have a KF account...
