SQ just called to update us on the options (so another ) - SQ CDG/etc is totally full (perhaps those with status re-booked ?) and BA/QF day flights too so they're now looking at evening options including SQ321. Looking myself, there's also availability this evening on BA and SQ ex-FRA and ZRH so we should definitely get away from somewhere today. All opinions shared are my own, and are not necessarily those of my employer or any other organisation of which I'm affiliated to.

Hope you get on a suitable alternative flight real soon. If I had work commitments, I'd probably have flown off the hook by now...

There were about two buses of pax going to the Radisson last night but less than half a bus going back today. Spooky! Did everyone else get swallowed up in the middle of the night ?
We were told to keep our old BPs and just proceed through security at our convenience.
I forgot to mention that those pax who'd bought duty free items had to leave them behind last night before returning airside and were reunited with them today.

I am suprised SQ did not try to get a replacement 747 to try and fill up, like they did with the SYD flight last year, and also like what QF did with the recent LAX flights. Even if they didn't have any 747s for use, I'm sure BA may have had 2 or 3 747s out of the fleet of 55 that could be spared to SQ for this purpose. I remember a while back, my dad was travelling on Business by CX from KUL-ICN via HGK, but when the CX flight got delayed by a few hours, they decided to use the MH 747 and fill that up with pax who were connecting from HGK.

You expect BA to 'lend 2 or 3 747s' to SQ and presumably the crews to operate them, to fly a competitors passengers nearly 7000 miles. Great suggestion. This is a tech fault, not a war zone evacuation.

I mentioned the 747 idea because it has happened in the past with both SQ and QF when A380 flights were canceled because of technical problems, and replacement 747s were flown in. I only mentioned BA loaning it to SQ because SQ is probably short on 747s now (unless they have a free one thats not under maintenance), but they can loan with a certain charge (Not free of course). MH did it for a competitor (CX) for a certain fee. It wouldn't necessarily have to be a 747. If SQ has a pair of 777s or even A340s (any plane with that range) to send out, that would've worked as well. But the pax were all taken care of, so that's definitely good.
Hopefully there won't be too many technical issues like this in the near furtue. I may take the SQ A380 flight next month for the first time from LHR as well.
