  • Why does SQ only offer 1 selection of dessert?

Curious if there are any explanations as to the purpose behind SQ's decision in general to cater only 1 selection of desert for each meal for the premium cabins? Even in highly pricey Suite, only one selection. I've seen perhaps one or two that offers two, but only one for almost all J & F menus posted. I was surprised that even AF, a carrier nowhere near the prestige of SQ, catered 3 selections proper of dessert (or 4 if you include the fruits) in business according to two menus posted recently:

Of course I am aware that the lack of dessert options is compensated in so many other areas that make SQ the airline that we know of. But do you still would still believe SQ, as a premium carrier, can upgrade it's dessert offerings?

Whilst I like fruit, I was a bit surprised there was only fruit offered for an F flight ex BKK - SIN and nothing else.

I can think of one explanation that has already been covered on these boards though.

Dessert hasn't been, in my view, one of SQ's strong points.

But in any case, I could barely finish dessert after the meals on SQ J or F! You must have a very healthy appetite, Kiwi Mile. Since I like sampling the cheese selection and (hopefully) the dessert, the selection has been more than adequate for me. I could also still ask for the fruit selection on top of both those.

When it is as yummy as this, I wouldn't complain.

But otherwise, yes, a couple more options would be nice.

Related to this topic, I also wonder if SQ thinks that there are only 3 types of cheese in the world?

Also if you are on a flight with sleeper service (meal after you take off, or breakfast before you land) you don't get any desert

It hasn't been, indeed, but those chocolates that come round after the meal service on the ICN-SIN rtn (but not on the SIN-ATH rtn) route are absolutely delicious...

And how many types do you expect to be served on SQ?
Isn't it the three will cover three kinds: mild, medium and strong; or else you can look them up as soft, semi-hard, and hard!

Ooops, can't resist to have innuendos and kinky stuff back on the board.

I'm with you there. Most of the time I can only have cheese OR dessert, but not both. I'd appreciate a wider choice should I go for dessert though.

Though this might be based on historical patterns of demand?

No problem with 3 kinds of cheese. Would just prefer not to have the SAME 3 every time...

This is something I have been wondering too.
I have to admit I do have a sweet tooth and really love a good chocolate mousse cake or creamy cheesecake, creme caramel....mmmhhhhhhh......
jjpb3, I always make sure I leave some space in a little corner of my tummy for that part of a meal - dessert, of course taking the risk that if desert is not to my liking there will be a little void which then has to be filled with some other leftovers.
Usually with SQ it's somekind of ice cream desert, which is o.k. but I do agree some choice would be great.
However, desert or no-desert would not be on the top of the list why or why I wouldn't choose an airline.

I don't know which routes you are taking most of the time, but when I was traveling heavily for the past few years long haul, every time the menu changed (whether monthly or bimonthly), the cheese selections were changed as well.
I remembered when I went to the menu tasting. The chef planners gave many choices for each meals (from appetisers to desserts).
