This is getting dumber and dumber. I don't even like some of the so-called preferred seats they are charging for.

Why on earth further sully their premium image with these LCC pretensions worth nothing in additional revenue?

That's assuming they get takers for those seats

Oh dear, after all the comments on this thread, I am ashamed to say that I just paid 32 pounds to get a preferred seat on the A380 for my wife's flight back to London.

This gotta be a joke charging for 51 C and H on 772 2 class configuration. Who wants to sit on these 2 seats when they are so close to lavatories and do not have window to look out??

Even MH did not put those 2 extra seats in their 772ER.

No need to be ashamed LHR. It seemed in your case it worked out to your advantage, paying the 32 pounds and getting the better seat for a loved one.
I would have done the same.
I think this will work for some very well who might usually not be able to get this kind of seat and won't work so well for others, for all of us who have status and would like these seats as a perk for beeing a valued frequent flier.

Agree completely with you, yvrcnx. No need to be ashamed with what you have done. I have seen pax that made inquiries about those seats and the pax indeed has a willingness to pay.

I have a few questions if you guys don't mind:

                1 Are PPS/SQEG members exempted?
2 What if there is an aircraft change, and they aren't as many "preferred seats" to offer on the new aircraft?

Personally that's how I feel about SQ. Love their products but hate their FF/Loyalty programs (yeah I consider this as a ground thing since if you have issues you'll have to speak to an agent who is working on the ground not onboard). Thanks to draconian policy of not making saver awards available for 77Ws or 380s, I virtually have no incentive to deposit my mileages into my KrisFlyer account. Because of that I deposited all of my SQ mileages this year into my Aeroplan account thus helped me a lot in requalifying for Super Elite Status back in July.

This is just so budget airline like. Never imagined SQ would ever resort to such measures.

                      May I add that upper deck 71 A C H K, 81 A C H K are also preferred seats?

I've just paid 64 pounds to travel in 81 A on a LHR-SIN-LHR return. Personally, I think its a very fair price to pay for the additional comfort for long haul flights.

As a non-status flyer with SQ I agree with you but if I was a PPS or a KFEG, I'd feel angry

I can answer number 1 - PPS & SQEG are not exempt - they must pay like everyone else

I mentioned in another forum that I can understand where SQ is coming from.
I think what gets to us is the way things are done and somehow the image we have of SQ, or have had until recently, and their actions don't match up with our image.

It seems that more and more carriers are making this practice part of their fare structure and it's just to show that SQ is "human" like all others are.

I personally would prefer if they would put aside a whole section like NZ, QF, BA, BR or even as simple as what UA is doing and then charge.
Rather then charging for individual seats here and there.
