[QUOTE=zvezda;40642]That's not a plausible schedule for two reasons. First, the flight times for SIN-YVR in a 777 would be two to two and a half hours less than for SIN-LAX in an A340. Second, YVR-SIN would be at least half an hour longer than SIN-YVR.QUOTE]

this isn't YVR-SIN. this is YYZ-SIN. Secondly, according to Guy Betsy at Cathaytalk it seems that the difference in routes can be only 5 minutes as long as the path goes directly over the north pole. I didn't produce those figures, SIA did.

Sorry for the confusion. Those flight time are plausible for SIN-YYZ, though I think it's unlikely SQ would buy 777-200LRs this late in the game rather than wait for A350-900s already on order. I think it's more likely we'll see nonstop SIN-YVR service using 777-200ERs.

Is that very shocking news? The airline did consider this aircraft some time back, only to not proceed with it for some reasons. Now it seems there's been a turnaround in management thinking.

well if Boeing can offer a good deal to SQ for its 777LRs, it is almost a certainty that SQ will go for it as SQ already operates the world's largest fleet of 777 series and besides the LR do share the same engine as the 77W. And it will carry more than a third more pax than the current A345s. It makes operational sense for SQ to replace the A345s with 777LRs - if the offer ir right - as now SQ only operates 5 A345s which they have to have separate pilots to fly them and maintaining spares for only 5 planes.

This is great! The first time I read an article on why Singapore Airlines stopped flying to Toronto in 1994, which was because Air Canada was complaining of competition to the government, I started to hate Air Canada for not accepting a small challenge like this. But now since SIA is going to fly direct to Toronto, it's really good news, since Toronto is one of my favourite cities. Just hope it lands at Toronto Pearson Int'l Airport new Terminal 1, and NOT convert everything into business class, like how it did for the existing non-stop routes to New York and Los Angeles, which is outraging

It's just a rumour and not a particularly plausible one.

i did not know that SQ has even the thought of purchasing the77L

and even if they were to order today, they would have to wait for about 2 yrs before the 1st one comes

PT 2: wont SQ fly form VYR first? YYZ is new ground for them.... and also, VYR is the gateway to canada for air transport from the east. not YYZ

Well not exactly. They used to fly to YYZ but was banned by the Canadian gov. due to their stiff protection of AC. YVR is already feasible but YYZ also has a large Asian population and is the financial hub of Canada. Cathay has increased frequency there if I recall correctly and also uses A340-600 which shows there is a growing market.

                        Outbound:
                        SQ24 LV: SIN 01:15 Nonstop
                        AR: YYZ 06:00
                        EQP: 77L Time: 17hr 45min

                        Return:
                        SQ23 LV: YYZ 09:30 Nonstop
                        AR: SIN 16:20+1
                        EQP: 77L Time: 17hr 50min
I think the schedule would be more like the EWR one. The westbound dayflight would be much better as an overnight.

Those timings look like TG's New York Express. But, again, how can SQ do it with a 77L if it doesn't have any 77L's?
