  • Question about involuntary redemption downgrade

Got a question. Last month, I booked a round trip F saver award flight JKT to Tokyo Narita for my holiday in March 2016. All sectors are on F. Miles will accordingly deducted and ticket issued.

Today when I checked the same booking online, I found that the 3rd sector Narita to Singapore, the aircraft has been changed to regional 777-200ER and accordingly, I was downgraded to J. I wasn't contacted or notified prior.

For such case, will I be able to swap my flight to another flight that has F or if not possible, ask SQ to refund me the difference in miles?

Try getting thru SQ call centre prove impossible with holding time longer than 20 mins without answer.

Technically speaking, you'll be charged for the highest class of service, even if your longer sectors are in a lower class of service. In other words, you won't get a refund unless your CGK-SIN-CGK sectors are changed to J, so the whole booking becomes a J award.

On the other hand, you can get them to rebook you on another flight that has F, which might be subject to availability. I doubt you'll be charged a change fee since you were downgraded. Availability is another story, though.

That's very lucky of you . I had a similar situation, 2F Saver seats booked on the same flight (1 sector one-way only). The F seats were downgraded to J without notification, due to aircraft change.

        I called 3 times:
1st time to tell the agent what happened - agent offered to re-ticket in J immediately but without refund of difference in miles, I refused and he offered to email some other department.
2nd time was to chase on this issue. Subsequently the entire itinerary was cancelled (!) by SQ and I got the full miles back. I checked and J Saver awards were waitlist only.
Fearing that I would not be able to even get 2 J seats, I called a 3rd time. Good thing they still honoured 2 J Saver for me. I had to pay for the difference in taxes and surcharges (!).

Needless to say I wrote in a feedback but the reply was something like "there was no loss in your miles". I should have pursued "rebook in another flight with F" like you did

I wonder, F flight from where?
With NRT's only F flight downgraded, is it R class or Haneda's flights?
