8000 miles? I would reconsider as if you do not travel often to get enough miles. It will get expired and gone.

It should depend on your traveling and miles accumulation pattern.

For my case, they will get redeemed before expiry as I have no trouble accumulating.

I don't see much difference in terms of value. I assume I still can get to pay $20/1K miles to some credit card under promotional rate
