  • I'm a sucker for advertising........ MH's new campaign

MH has (in malaysia anyway) started this mega ad campaign, which i think is based on the "MH - not just an airline code", which stands for Malaysian Hospitality theme.

Lots of stuff about "coming home" etc etc - sentimental stuff to bring a tear to your eye.

Will try to dig up some of these commercials if someone's uploaded them to youtube. Pretty good stuff

    So how good's their advertising?

Good enough that I just went and bought a JOW fare from HKG-KUL. :o - been tossing up between EK/TG via BKK and SQ via SIN for the longest time..... 30 seconds of commercials later this girl's flying the Wau again!

A bit OT but I do like the SQ arrival announcement in SIN which welcomes home Singaporeans and permanent residents, the sort of thing which I'm sure creates warm fuzzy feelings!

BTW, what's JOW and Wau ?

Incidentally, the selamat pulang/welcome home spiel thing - is an MH thing.

      To answer your second question:

      JOW= J one way.

Wau - is the malay word for Kite

What's with kids dropping their stuffed toys and FAs having to retrieve them? My nieces could never be oblivious to dropping their little companions. BA has almost the same exact incident in its safety video (right up to the image of the reunion with the FA handing the toy back to the child, silhouetted against huge terminal windows showcasing a plane parked in the background).

MH is one of the airlines I'd like to try on a long-haul flight.

Probably as cliched as a FA putting a blanket over a sleeping pax! Does that ever happen in real life ?

Nice advert! And it made me recall my experience with MH and I feel that MH stewardess are comparable (or in some cases better) to our Singapore Girls.

My MH experience was abt 2 years ago when I was flying MH to Sydney. Although some of their hardware (like their old B737s) really sux, I find that their cabin crew are quite top class. For example, I still rmb that some of the stewardess are very friendly, unlike some of our snobbish and robotic Singapore gals. In one of the instances, my friends and I were playing card games on the flight, the stewardess automatically bring us peanuts and ask us if we need any drink out of the blue. Also, I was called by my name thru out one of the flights although I'm in Y. The cabin crew in MH always give the impression that they like and enjoy the job they are doing.

In some of my recent flight with SQ, I do note that some of them do give an expression of 'y m i doing this sh*t', esp when serving some grps of Asian passengers.
In fact, I was rudely scolded by one of the steward when I was unable to present my boarding pass at the plane door. And it was officially my 1st SQ flight. What a bad 1st impression for tat flight! My hands are full with my cabin luggages, and my boarding pass & passport are safely secured in some compartment in my bag. Although I told them I know exactly where my seats are, they still insist on seeing my boarding pass. Had no such problems when not presenting my boarding pass at tat point for other airlines.

Sorry and thanks for reading such a long winded post.

I believe it's a requirement on SQ (and lots of others, e.g. BA) that the crew have to check your BP again at the door. It acts as a double check that you're indeed on the right flight and so that the crew know if they have to give you any special attention, e.g. your FFP status. So the steward really was correct in his insistence although, from what you say, his tone may have better.
