Qantas jet forced to return to S'pore

SINGAPORE: A Qantas jumbo jet was forced to return to Singapore early Saturday when its wheels failed to retract after take-off, the airline said.

"Shortly after take-off the crew on Qantas flight (QF) 52 from Singapore to Brisbane noticed that the aircraft's undercarriage would not retract," a Qantas spokeswoman told AFP.

"The aircraft returned to Singapore airport and landed safely at 12:03am local time (1603 GMT Friday)."

The Boeing 747-400 had left Singapore's Changi Airport less than an hour before it was forced to return, a spokesman for the airport told AFP.

No one was injured.

Is there a Qantas incident division in the major news agencies around the world, where people are paid find out everything about it ? Every small thing that happens to QF seems to get picked up and is out on the news. A similiar thing happened to SQ in HKG and there's barely a squeak abt it. No pun intended there

seems QF 744s needs more mx checks as over the past few weeks alone, there been issues with their 744s n 767s - as dont hear of BA older 744s having so much incidents.

Because the media hate Qantas. This is not newsworthy but anything with Qantas will be described as a near disaster for now.

The story didn't rate overally high in the Sunday papers here in Sydney - as far back as page 22 of the Sunday Terrorgraph, a side note describing the incident - none of the usual "feared for my life" horror stories that usually accompany an article about a QF hiccup.

The incident trigerred just a small article on todays sunday's time. Nothing overwhelming.

And SQ had a similar problem on its A380 today on HKG-SIN flight. Flight returned back to HKG.
