  • Renewing My PPS Status Across Pacific Ocean...And Visit To Beach During Winter...

With 3,500 PPS value to go to renew my next year's, i had planned either to Europe or North America this time around but had this funny feeling that the weather over there would gonna be bad....and true enough....6 sense .....And so, there was i making a trip to New York this time around....covered west the last round, so decided to do east this time...having considered the chilly weather in New York, i have also decided to do a run on continental airlines to Miami....well, there's the place americans go to during winter don't they...
2 options to New York : Newark and JFK...which one? For me, i would prefer the direct flight with better getting over the jet lag...departing SIN in mid afternoon and arriving newark in the late evening...just nice for dinner and sleeping time .....and whereby 747 goes frankfurt and onwards to JFK with space beds which i would get flat beds on A345...

For a start, i did not take any KUL - SIN sector photos as many of us had covered this sector many times before and for the morning flight to SIN, the 772 did it's service with the evening flights on A333. Having booked in an executive room in the Hilton Orchard, was given an upgrade during my check in to a executive suite. Attached is some photos of the room

As you walk in the main door, left is towards the living hall and to the right is the bedroom. There is 2 bathrooms which is located in front of the main door and the other located on the bedroom.

The bathroom....which provides crabtree & evelyn...

The view of the living hall...

The TV pole doubles as a dancing one? Nice suite, I gave up my free stay to a friend who enjoyed it thoroughly as well

Great job KevSQ! Looking forward to further posts!

After breakfast, checked out from Hilton and reached T3 around 10.20am. Just merely 2 hours before this long haul journey begins...Check in was a swift with today's load to EWR at 45%....i choose 30A with bulkhead as it is a much better bet than having the normal J seats on A345 as i could straighten my legs more comfortably. The J class on A345 is slightly differ from the normal long haul as the window seats are not attached to the side panel as per compared to the A380 which is well attached to the side panel. With an hour to go before boarding after browsing through T3's duty free, went to SKL T3 where surprisingly empty....it was only less than 20 pax on the J class lounge..As you can see the photos below how empty is it...

Boarding today was at Gate B5 which is the same gate where SQ did the
inaugural to HKG on the A380 Boarding announcement was not as per normal as this flight is an all business class with "SQ 22 to Newark is now ready for boarding. All passenger can board the plane anytime to your convenience. We wish you a pleasant flight"

My seat 30A is a slight walk from the main door on the A345. With today's load pretty low, you can practically choose your fav seats....Below is the photo of 9V-SGC taking us to Newark....

The engineers getting ready this bird for it's long flight across the pacific...

      My seat...30A

View of row 30 from my side...

And view from 30A towards the back of the plane...

Pre boarding drinks were offered and FS getting ready the aircraft for departure and after 10 mins of me boarding, announcement from the inflight supervisor to close all doors and cross check..The time now is now 12.50pm with the captain announce the flight journey and which way were departing, cross winds...etc...flight time to Newark today is 18 hrs 45 mins...
To survive the jet lag, i tried my very best to stay up the whole journey to update fellows SQ talkers the route today...

We taxied to the runway at 1.00pm and bad news....we are sequence no. 6 for take off today with more aircraft lining up behind us...
Attached is the photos while we were taxing the runway...

As you can see the number of planes behind us....

The screen showing how far is this journey...

          More photos of the cabin...

As per earlier said, the window seat is not connected to the side panel of the window and there is space in between the seats and side panel...

Seat belt sign is off after 5 mins into the flight and menu was actually placed on the magazine panel which you can take time to look at the menu before FS comes to you with what you wanted for the first half of the flight...with no amenities given for this route, unlike the rest of the airlines such as MH, CX & TG (some to compared to), we were just given the same thing as what if you fly between SIN and HKG....

Meals is served in 3 stages....lunch, dinner, supper & light bites...something to nibble on...

Photos of the menu to EWR

Peanuts were serve before our lunch. Lunch were serve 40 mins after take off..

Done with lunch and catch 2 movies until it was dinner which were somewhere between HKG & JPN...

              Counting down to dinner...

Between this, dinner was served with satay, followed by salmon with duck liver with the main course of wagyu beef....and finale was peach crumble..

And my apology, i have missed out on the main course photo...

By now, we are already cruising past Tokyo...

Some shots as we passed Tokyo...

Again, more movies on board for me to manage my jet lag...by now, we are already 2 hours past Tokyo...

By now, we are almost reaching Anchorage en-route to the north east of US...

Some shots showing how freezing cold it is out there...

Half way through the journey, i was feeling a bit hungry and was craving for something spicy and sour...then, it hit my mind to have some tom yam soup noodles....

By now, we have flew almost 12 hours...

And with a few more hours to go before arrival...

And then, came the announcement from the captain to the crew to prepare the plane for landing and we started our decent to Newark...some shots here before our decent to Newark...

Some BA aircraft which we passed during our route to the gate...

Is this the one with the all business class seats from London?

Arrival was quite good as during the late evening, there isn't many flights arriving into Newark Liberty International and perhaps more to the domestic arrivals where it is the hub for Continental Airlines...we manage to get our baggage during the first round as luggage were tag as first class for PPS Sol...

Transfer to Manhattan was quite fast which took us around 35 minutes as Lincoln Tunnel was having a good traffic day....I have put up a the whole stay in Crowne Plaza Times Square which cost me around USD 400 averagely a night and being the priority rewards plat member, i received an instant upgrade to the next level which was the corner concierge tower room which has a very good view of Times Square...

Here are some photos of the room...mind my flash was a bit to bright...

Perhaps this is a much better looking photo...

                    The bathroom....slight small though...

After getting the luggages from the bell boy, i have decided to go out for a short walk in times square for dinner and have a early retirement tonight...

                    Chilli dogs or pretzels anyone??

This is where the ball above will roll down for the 2011 countdown...

                      Nice pastries...

M&M store in times square...nice limited edition of the statue of liberty replica..

Before walking back to the room, had some shots of the hotel lobby....

Next morning, woke up early as still in the jet lag revolution..

Had hot breakfast up in the concierge lounge...

Did some shopping and walking this morning....

Was in central park when i saw this tribute to John Lennon..

Empire State Building looks as great always!!

What can i say....the landmark of NYC!!

Next day, trip to Washington, was rather a bad one cause it took us 3 hours there and the journey of 3 was extended to 5 hours due to heavy traffic for thanksgiving rush...

The only few photos which i have decided to put up in Washington...Could anyone see Obama there??

Visited the Kennedy space centre museum as well....

Reminds me fo the good old day of this airline...

Got back in the late evening in NYC and went for a cup of tea in the lounge...for tea, they serve chocolate bars, snacks, fruits and biscuits...

                          Very well stocked bar...

And a very nice sight from the lounge...
