  • A TR dedicated to many SQTalkers: SQFG goes to Dhaka! (KUL-DAC-KUL on MH J)

First up - I have to say this trip is meant as an apology to some people here, some of whom were kind enough to come to my neck of the woods, some of whom were kind enough to invite me to their neck of the woods, and I couldn't turn up for any of them.

In cantonese the apt term is: "Fong Fei Kei"
    Translated literally: Let go aeroplane

Also used: "747" to denote the same thing.
In Cantonglish an example of the usage of this term = Wahhh you so bad.. you 747 me!

Yeah, I indeed 747'ed all of you. 747-400ER no less - so here's this TR dedicated to all of you:

    9V-JKL
    Lion City
    milehighJ
    StarG
    SuperJonJon
    UMD
    Upright Man
    Guy Betsy
    Zander
    Kyo+

and last but never ever least, jjpb3

So here I am - as ordered by my boss to drag my sorry bum to Bangladesh.

    Stay tuned

Wowee... must be exciting no less... and I supposed it'd be aboard Golden Goose?

Will be downing an additional cup of Air Mata Kuching in Petalling Street this weekend no less as visit SQFG-land.

          Enjoy yourself

No golden goose. Went to fly kites instead

So, the most expedient way to get to Dhaka from home is of course by MH. A very full flight tonight, and I counted some 12 opups on a list I saw. MH196 departs KUL at 2210 and arrives DAC at 0110 on the clock.

Also noted: 32 deportees (which caused a huge scene) being escorted onto the plane by immigration officers. The 32 boys didn't look very happy I can tell you.

Looking out from the smoking room at the Satellite Golden lounge. At gate C1 in the foreground, a 9M-MR* series 772 is being readied for pushback as Malaysian 149 to MEL. Oh how I wish that was my plane instead

The rather spartan smoking room. Still, a welcome for me Our flight departs tonight from G4 at the main building, but the Rimbun (yes yes I know, it's not the official name) doesn't have a puff away corner, so I've hauled my gear on the aerotrain to come all the way here.

The rather iffy looking red old J seats - this is a bulkhead row. I'm in 1K, legroom in the other rows only about 45-47 inches maybe. Rather chuffed to be here then...

... as you can see from the trademark SQFG foot shot tm

                Easy explanation.

                I hate red eyes myself...

...Or maybe they expected to be flying Bangladesh Biman instead of Kite

Satay to start never fails to hit the spot

A little bit of malay goes a long way sometimes.
Bang! (Abang or Big brother), Minta lebih sikit boleh ka? (ah the vagaries of the language = Literally translated = May I ask for more less? So he gives me quite a few of them

Pre starter set up. I remember in the old days it was somewhat more attractively done. Maybe I'm getting old or something
The Thayir Vada on the right was unmemorable and a little chewy.

                      Next page of the menu:

This is the rather bland-ish norwegian Salmon I selected. Should've gone for one of the bangladeshi items instead.

Oh well - dinner disappointment aside, it was getting late anyway so no sense in eating too much.

As MH's 333's are not equipped with PTV's in J (the 332's are) - they give out a dig-e-player style personal unit. I have to say this one feels a fair bit chunkier and more substantial than the MI one. Output volume could have been a bit louder, but apart from that, no real complaints. It was intuitive and easy to use.
Zachary Quinto and Karl Urban here pretending to be in space. Incidentally - a great movie and well worth watching

They considerately dim the cabin afterwards for those who want to snooze a bit on this short 3 hour 25 minute flight

But really, before you know it, it's time to land. For a city with this population you'd expect a fair bit more lights. Dhaka beckons!

Welcome to Ia interna io al A port!

Ok, so this ain't Changi. And it's muggy like you wouldn't believe. It had been raining heavily the whole day, and is forecasted to rain heavily the whole of this week. I've never seen windows fog up so badly like this. My host tells me the humidity is something like 80 odd percent.

It's very quiet. SQ436 has come and gone home, and apart from a DC10 to the port side, we're the only widebody here

The good thing about arriving this time of the night is that immigration's nice and smooth. Out to the waiting car, and a 6 minute drive later, it's home sweet hotel for the next two nights at the Radisson Water Garden

More to come later - pics from Dhaka (I hope). Thanks for reading so far
