  • Smooth as silk.. to DXB

Hey all! Thought it would be nice to post a little TR on my trip to DXB from KUL with Thai Economy. Once again my camera has failed to take clear pics Going to get a new one soon.

    My flight details
    TG416 KUL-BKK A346
    TG517 BKK-DXB A333

After a 28 minute train ride from the city, I approached the Thai check-in counters to check-in. The check-in staff greeted me Sawadeekap which is Welcome in Thai. After I got my BP I decided to check out the lounge as I'm a KF gold.

I proceeded to Immigration which was very swift, and in a moment I was on the Aerotrain bound for the gates. When I first entered the lounge, I noticed that it was quite colourful, the food selection was rather average. 15 minutes to boarding, I proceeded to the gates but only to find the 1320 departure time brought back to 1340 A while later we started to board. This was my first time on a 346, and was looking very forward to this flight. It looked very large outside. At the door we were warmly greeted by the Thai FAs, or as I call them, the Thai girls My seat was 41A. A pleasing yellowish colour seat.

There was no warm towels on offer, but the safety video was impressive Seats were equiped with foot rests. I found the cabin to be about 70% full. By 1349, the engines were in full thrust, and we were air-bourne 30 seconds later. I found the IFE system to be touch screen, somthing I never seen before A drink service wad followed by a snack- a sandwitch.

Some 1.5 hours later we started decending from 340000 thousand feet. As we decended into the rainy Thai skies, the fllight became bumpy. The captain announced that there is heavy rain in BKK, and 1 runway was closed. I could not recall his exact words, but it was soemthing like that. We entered a holding pattern for 20 minutes, and finally touched down at the land of a thousand smiles(or rather a 1000 protesters) with a bang. In total, we were delayed for nearly an hour, but with my 3.5 hours transit time, it was no big deal. However I also saw many flights including a SIN bound SQ flight being delayed.

    Part 2 to come

Past the Karman line and into the thermosphere!

Do replace your camera with a working one as I'm sure we're all keen to see pics.

Perhaps I'll try to get one in DXB, unless the prices are not sky high Anyway I'm sure many of you always take Thai or go to BKK, so my pics won't be really special.

I bought a Fuji one in DXB Festival City. It's cheap as chips because there's no tax... have since given that to a sibling (still a Canon fan at heart)..

              part 2

              Ok, for the next sector,

              Thai TG517
              BKK-DXB
              A330-300

After spending 45 minutes in the lounge, 1 hour plane spotting(I can stare at planes for ages) , I went browsing around the airport. At KUL, I did not check my BP for the BKK-DXB route, and realised I got seat 38 B. I always fancy window seats, so I went to the transit counter to see if I could get a window seat.

The lady told me that the flight is barely 45% full, and no one was sitting next to me, so I could use that window seat. Ok then, off to the gates. It was 15 prior to boarding, and true enough, there were few pax waiting at the hold room. Boarding was called, and everybody crowded the gates to board. Again we were warmly greeted by the Thai FAs, and newspapers were distributed onboard.

To my surprise, there seemed to be an Unacompanied Minor behind me The FAs made the boy feel comfortable by giving him toys and a drink before takeoff. He gets a pre-flight drink, why dont I? After doors closed we were still waiting for a long time, so I guess we were waiting for more luggage. There seemed to be a few Thai young ladies on the middle seats next to me, and were making a WHILE lot of noise. Frequently they opened the overhead compartments taking their stuff before we took off during taxi.

The FAs told them a few times to sit and buckle up and they finally did as we neared the runway. Still, they were noisy. As the aircraft began to roll on the runway, the girls began shouting again: Weeeeee!!! AHhhhh!!! I guess this is similar to what LukeGT mentioned on his report HKG-BKK on UL.

Drinks were served shortly after, and I began to use the 2 seats I had to rest. The Y seats were different from the 346 I took, and the IFE did not seem to be on-demand .

A light meal was served, and again a sandwitch The FAs frequently checked on the boy behind. Every now and then drinks were offered. It was an evening flight, and were scheduled to arrive DXB at 2130. Night flight all the way! Another meal was served 2 hours before landing, and this time it was either Pasta or chicken. I chose the chicken which was slightly spicy and nice.

Landing at DXB 9 minutes ahead of ETA, I saw the huge Emirates A380 holding beside the runway. A good, wasted picture taking chance.
We deboarded by airstairs, and before I knew it I was at the baggage claim area. Perhaps I was too tired

P.S For those wondering, cutlery is plastic..'

I experienced this recently on a SIN-BKK sector with TG, two ladies - one seated next to me and her friend behind her chatting and carrying on as well as being on the mobile phones - my friend quipped "excuse me madam, I'm not sure about you, but I don't feel like crashing tonight, so if you don't mind could please off your handphone" - I nearly burst into tears from both what my friend had said and the expression on the womans face!

flyKL - hope you can snag yourself a bargain in DXB and add some pics to your report
