  • SFO-SIN-BKK-HKG-SFO (SQ 1-SQ 980-TG 628-SQ 2) J class

Since joining SQTalk, I've enjoyed the trip reports most of all, and although I may not be gifted w/ the wit or eloquence of prose of nickbot, floboy, KeithMel, DeltaFlying Prof, SQflyergirl and Leory and Bubba to name a few..

I wanted to contribute to the community that I have become so fond of.

I had intended this to be more of a video trip report, but technical difficulties, size limitations of files on youtube, flikr, etc... has altered my original plans, as i don't have to many actual pics.

    SQ 1, SFO-SIN

So as I edit and cut my video files to upload latter, I start my trip report w/ some pics on SQ 1 SFO-SIN on 1/27/09.

    Seat 11K

My setup, worked great for videos.... didn't try it for taking pictures oddly enough. I brought 2 Lumix point and shoot cameras and 3 16GB SDHC cards.

I tried everything I wanted to try from the BTC for this segment, so decided to try my luck w/ the menu.

    Appetizer

Main, herb crusted lamb.... pretty good

    Desert

    From HKG-SIN, Seat 11K

    Starters

    Breakfast

The ubiquitous legshot (more foot in my case, in the future I'll leave this to SQflyergirl.)

Spent 9 days in Singapore, some random pics from SIN

Jumbo's chilli crab looked more appetizing

But No SignBoard tasted better IMHO

Me taking a picture, or a young girl taking a picture

*edited* Finally got a uploadable shortened version of the take off from HKG and landing video in SIN uploaded onto youtube.

    HKG, on active runway...

Video link to landing at SIN, on short final....

      Conclusions

      SQ 1.

I'm used to making this run on the 747 in 17K, and this was my first flight in the 77W. Although I enjoyed not sliding down the seat trying to catch afew z's. I had in my mind that the new seats would be a tad bit softer in the bed mode. Just 1 cocktail, and I hit the sack. Personally, going to Asia from the west coast (USA) I prefer red eyes as the effects of jet lag are greatly reduced, if you can get a full nights rest. I'm surprised more carriers don't do it.

A good crew, average by SQ's standards. I did notice 3 pax in F, and in the front section of J 6 pax. The back section was much lower load, and didn't peak into Y.

Food was good, but I wished for abit heavier option on the HKG-SIN segment.

      SQ 980 SIN_BKK, TG 628 BKK-HKG, and SQ 2 HKG-SFO

      to follow.....

Enjoying the TR so far, Lie_flat_seatlover. As nice as the food and flower pictures are, I must admit I like the one with the girl and the goldfish the most. If that were my niece, I think she would be frantically motioning my brother over, having dropped the camera into the pond.

Looking forward to the next installments of your TR.

Something like that I remembered transpired, but thankfully she didn't drop the camera

            Excellent report with great pictures!
            The orchids look magnificent.

One thing I noticed - the appetizer on SQ 1 in business is THE SAME as that I had in F on the same route in January 2009!
It was called "Trio of salmon". Are they now doing the same appetizers in C and F? There was another option in F (baked oysters).
Here's the pic from the F flight, for comparison:

Thank you flyingfox. I've made many formatting errors in my first trip report, but thank you for the encouragement.

I'm rather surprised that F and J would have what appears to be the same appetizers. But in J, we didn't have any choices like in F.

I'm looking forward to making the same run in F this summer, so something to look forward to!

Very cool setup! I didn't know they made mounts for cameras like that! Thanks for sharing

                  SQflyergirl,

I got the idea after reading one of your trip reports where you had your GPS mounted actually!

It's intended for a camcorder actually, but I wanted one sort of beefy so it would actually stay on.

May try the one size smaller, as it's most likely overkill for a small point and shoot camera.

Will that hold a dslr with a lightish, and shortish lens?

Yes, it's rated (the suction cup) to hold up to 20 pounds, and 2 ball joints each with 360 degree or rotation. So if you have a longer lens, it would still work.

I'll work up some photos and post them.

and thanks KeithMEL the next section I have no inflight pics, just Hi-Def movies I'm trying to par down w/ Premiere to get it youtube uploadable.

flyingfox, afew more orchid pics for you from Singapore. It was a overcast day, about 2 hours before closing and the place was deserted. Made for a peaceful stroll.

... and what must be the cleanest public men's restroom, w/ a view

                              SQ 980 SIN-BKK, 02/05/09 J Class, seat 14A

You ever have one of those flights? You know, the one's where your seated next to the most obnoxious person in the plane and can't wait to deplane?

But before I get started, here's the youtube link for landing into BKK

                              http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIZn-D5ScC8

I board early, and afew minutes latter this gentleman gets on talking loudly on his cell phone, but refuses to take his seat. I'm shaking my head in disbelief. As other pax board, he's actually walking up and down the aisle holding up boarding and getting all sorts or rude looks until finally he parks himself near the galley. Still on his phone, and yes the whole cabin now knows about the deal he wants to close, etc....

Finally doors are about to close and he's asked to take his seat. The cabins about 70% full in J, and F about 60%. You guessed it, where does he finally sit? Well right next to me of course!!!

I have a thing against rude, obnoxious, self centered jerks... like most people I guess but, it's just a pet peeve of mine. But I'm not going to let him ruin my flight I tell myself.

Shortly after take off, drink services begins, Sling for me... and he orders something, and then falls asleep.

Drinks arrive and as I'm sipping mine, we hit turbulence and I rush to grab his drink from spilling onto me.... he's snoozing away.

It's bumpy for a good 15-20 minutes, flight attendants are asked to grab their seats and I'm juggling 2 drinks from spilling while this jackass is snoozing away.

I manage to take small sips in between bumps of my drink to lower the fluid level, but his it's just spilling onto my hand and down my arm. I'm trying to think about how I could get this ass up to get his drink.. but the bumps subside and meal service begins and a flight attendant relieves me of the jackass's drink.

I BTC'ed the Slipper Lobster, similar to the one below... but mine was smaller portions. Small enough that I was still hungry afterwards.

Meal services concludes, trays are being removed and jackass wakes up... he looks for his drink thats been removed and flags down a flight attendant for another. When asked about a meal, he declines.

He sips his drink and munches on his nut mix, while my meal tray is being removed, then decides he wants a meal!

A odd look from the flight attendant and then a meal, his second choice is brought and he wolfs it down as he start our decent.

I want out, but focus on trying to salvage my flight with a good video of the landing at least.

Immigration forms are handed out,as well as a CIP Lane Pass.
We finally land, and I'm relieved to be out.

I walked past the first immigration stalls headed for the CIP Lane, but many folks didn't. I'm 4th or 5th in line, clear rather quickly, wave to a porter and we're cleared looking for my ride.

I didn't get a chance to take any pics on this segment, just 3 videos, one of which I've already linked.

My stay in Bangkok was for 31 days, and in the next segments, I'll post the pics from the trip... which was alot more enjoyable then the flight.
