I believe its something to do with Japan's regulations on electronic devices. Both ANA and JL timetables mention this.

I managed to take picture while the plane still taxiing or climbing.... no problem with the crew...
Taxiing, taking off, climbing, cruising, decending, even landing, no problem at all....
Just be discreet...

Agree with you NH Club seat is better than SQ SpaceBed.
I like in particular the 3 buttons they provide for Seat, Lounge or Sleep.
