So, this should have been posted back in February when I was actually done with this short trip. Unfortunately I wasn't quite motivated to write a TR as I had a lot of work to do and uni exams came around the corner as well. Today, I had my last exam before my main summer exams so I finally have some time to whip up the best of my memories of this short hop to Frankfurt.
I perfectly know that this might not be the standard trip report you might find here as it includes neither fancy lounge pictures (no time and a forgotten Gold card) nor awesome business class cabins, though European business class isn't that spectacular anyway. This is simply a small snippet of my short trip to FRA to meet up with some folks on FT.
So....
It all began around 3 AM in my flat. Peter was staying over as he lives in the suburbs and the first bus to the city is scheduled for 7 AM. So he decided to crash on my couch to get around paying 35 euros for a cab. Pretty expensive for poor students like us ... and not quite economical if you know your way round public transport in Vienna, which is actually pretty awesome. Anyway, we managed to wake up after 3hrs of sleep, got dressed and went for the nearest night-bus stop. (!) I tell you, it's a whole experience on its own getting to the airport way before normal public transport commences at 5 AM.
my bus stop
you might guess what's been going on in my head... (tireeed! wanna sleep!)
After one hilarious 20 minute ride on the night-bus, wearrived in Sankt Marx. I was quite relieved we finally arrived as the person sitting next to me was apparently pretty pissed and constantly let his head fall on my sholder and made himself comfy there ... ewwww.
The train took us directly to Vienna International (VIE). We did not take the well-advertised City-Airport-Train (CAT) as it is way too overpriced and not significantly faster.
Sky is clearing ... VIE here we come!
People sleeping (?!) in the main terminal.
We checked in, using the self check-in stands. Quite easy, though I will never ever use those stands again, they somehow could not credit the miles on my bmi account.
