  • An ode to the last few days in F on a SQ 774

This trip is rather nostalgic for several reasons. First, it will likely
be my last trip on an SQ 744 before the swap to the A380. Second,
the entire family is traveling and lastly it's in two parts.

My wife and our 5-month old started their journey from LAX-SIN-BOM.
I accompanied them to check-in at TBIT and had a rather poor experience.
First, they had likely the most junior agent serving the F counter. She
literally checked the bags into BOM but didn't issue the connecting BP's
until I asked for them. Secondly, she asked me to pay $100 for the 3rd
piece of luggage resulting in me reminding her that I actually had a separate
ticket for my son and he is entitled for a piece of luggage. At this point she
did not complain on the 66Kg weight for just two of the pieces :-)

Anyways, she was courteous while apologetic and we weren't really in a rush
so the supervisor came and checked us in. I asked how many in F and she
said 3 - folks are often a little anxious when there is an infant in J or F... We
got a few odd looks as the agent handed two F BP's. Dont know what to do
in this situation except to smile.

Politeness works wonders and they also arranged a buggy car to handle the transfer from T3 to T2 for the rather tight 50-min transit!

I doubt my wife will snap any pics but hopefully at least of the bassinet in
seat 1B would be a nice addition to the TR.

My 4-year old and I start our journey on Sat and the route takes
us to SIN for two days (need to do some work in the middle) and then
off to CMB for a holiday where my wife and younger son will join us from
    BOM.

I hope to take some pictures of my part if the trip and shall post the
experience of flying one if the finest birds on one of the finest airlines!

    Stay tuned....

Sorry for the delay, just returned!

I don't have the pictures my wife took of our 5-month old yet but will post them in the next few days. Here is the
TR for my 4-year old and myself.

Check-in at TBIT was uneventful and we found that the flight is going to be 100% full. Luggage was about 30Kg
each but no hassle and BP's were presented for LAX-SIN. We were in 3C and 3D.

    Boarding Passes:

Spent about 40 mins at the TBIT lounge - other than cookies, a glass of milk nothing much to report there. No changes other than you can see construction of the new TBIT terminal up-close

After boarding, took a picture of the menu which is the Feb 2011 version:

I started off with some Dom and my son had apple juice. FA's were friendly and presented him with Cartoon Network
toys, child headphone and the famous teddy bear.

I had selected the Lobster for BTC and Fish Fingers for my son - the lobster ex-LAX was reasonable, although I must say the ex-NRT was much better (no picture though). The ex-LAX lobster was quite large and included the claw pieces as well:

Flight was reasonably smooth and we landed in Spore on-time. I didn't take any pictures NRT-SIN, but did spend some time at the ANA Suite Lounge where the staff were friendly and helpful as usual.

In Singapore, we stayed at the Four Seasons for two nights and visted the Spore Zoo and Universal Studios. The Four Seasons was absolutely fantastic with the staff extremely friendly and courteous with toys/gifts galore for my son.

The SIN-CMB sector was on the A330-300 with the new regional J-configuration. This IMO is very comfortable and
the nifty iPhone adapter allowed me to view and listen to my movies, videos and music as and when I wanted!

Very few pictures of the return journey, but again the FA were very helpful and spent a lot of time with my son. We
were only 4/12 on the return, so much more attention. Plus the crew was better on the return IMO.

Seabas was excellent with very tender fish and great taste!

Lots of rest on the return to prevent jet-lag....
