JAL getting rid of 747 classics (T.T)

JAL propsed to get rid of 747-200 & 747-300 at least before 2010 but the plan seems to be going a lot faster after JAL has been selling classics to Orient Thai, Transaero or other cargo operators.

They will pull out JALways 747-300 service to BNE from november too !!!... OTL OTL
The famous Reso'cha (Resort Express) will be gone soon.
Now, it seems the only place to ride in on 747 classcis in East Asia is Thailand.

What an excellent topic for talking about the fate of the JAL old aircrafts!!

Other than the 747 classics, do anyone knows why JAL eliminated its MD11s before the DC 10s, as I know MD11 is more technological, modern and newer than the DC10s, and it's obvious that it got a higher efficiency than the DCs in substance. By our logic, it should eliminate the DC10 first. Why its MD11 gets retired so early????? Does it involve some severe safety problems that makes JAL has such a determination for this elimination or any other else??

About Orient Thai, tell you one more things:

Do you still remember China Airlines(CI) has a very big disaster happened in 2002 during the flight from TPE to HK, it's about a 747-200 distintegrated in Taiwan Strait.

Actually this aircraft was made in 1979, and this time is its last flight for China Airlines. After this tragic flight, it was planned to fly back to Taiwan for repairing and modification, and then sold to Orient Thai, but OX can never never receive this flight.

If CI sold this 747 200 one week before, then Orient thai's insurance will be effective, not CI.

I've tried OX's ex-United Airlines 747 200 once, my feeling is that, it looks like I'm hiking with my grandmother.HA HA......

I think the reason is MD11 PAX is not efficient but really efficient for Cargo and MD11 was in demand by FEDEX, Transmile etc. For DC10, I guess they had some issues with flight engineers I guess. But I still don't know why MD11 got retired before DC10. It's a mystery.
