Funny that you mentioned Khon Kaen - been there many many times and you're right - not really on the tourist map, and not many nice hotels, the best of which is probably the Raja Sofitel. Has a certain quaintess that I adore.

Yep, Sofitel is the (only) place to stay I suppose having good friends in a city helps with the enjoyment, but we liked the place - good food, very cheap,...certainly a contrast to HKT which is usually the onward destination

I went to liqueur store this afternoon. I was shocked looking at the price of Krug. It's 50% more than Dom. It was fun to check the prices of wines served on board SQ.
