Has anyone heard if SQ are going to do a flypast with their A380 prior to the race. Great publicity!

During the SingTel Singapore Grand Prix, SMRT Taxis will implement a $5 location surcharge per trip, applicable to passengers who board taxis from 14 locations in the race vicinity, according to a Straits Times report.
These include Suntec City, hotels around the Marina area, Hitachi Tower, Centennial Tower, Peninsular Excelsior Hotel, Millenia Tower and Funan DigitaLife Mall.
The surcharge will be in effect from 10.30pm to midnight on September 26 and 27, and 9.30pm to midnight on September 28.

Why am i not surprised? Then after 12 the midnight 50% surcharge kicks in, lovely.

I hope you guys enjoy the Grand Prix as much as I do when it comes to Montreal every year. I went once to the race, and alas never again. After a nice march from the Metro station (equivalent to the MRT) to my grandstand seat at the first shikane in 30+ cloud free wind free day to sit on a metal bench (reflective) with no back lol..yeah that was that. It was fun to watch people's shoulders who where only wearing a tank top that day...by the end of the day they were red...and well people who were bald...hehehe
But no seriously it is great time...it is an experience. Although the Montreal media loves pointing out the influx of "euro-trash" (sorry) it is awesome to be in centre-ville and see Crescent Street locked down because of the wonderful pre-race parties going on. . I always inquire at my favourite restaurant (French) which team has rented out their restaurant (it's usually Mercedes or Ferrari)...and this year a steakhouse around the corner from the one I was talking about imported 1000$ dollar cigars and the finest cuts of meat (again ranging in the 100's of dollars CAD) for the diners to enjoy..funny we have a smoking ban in restaurant...bah who cares lol
Enjoy the show, enjoy the race...it is a great time.
Don't forget your earplugs....when watching it on TV wow is a night and day difference. When those cars downshift and even upshifting...heh...any revving of the engine in fact or gear changing...OUCH!!! (and I have 10% hearing loss at the ripe old age of 27 [not a result of the race but chronic ear problems] lol)Last edited by hofo_mofo; 22 September 2008, 08:13 PM.I'm still waiting for my cookie as my first name is Kris

Been a Sepang regular since it started might be watching the Melbourne one next year too.
Earplugs are really impt! Don't skimp on them. The cheap ones on sale aren't effective. Get proper ones from the pharmacy around $15 for a pair of foamies but they really reduce the noise. (I am left with 70% after all the "live firing" - Steel Rain )

Unless it's the 2008 FORMULA 1™ SINGAPORE AIRLINES SINGAPORE GRAND PRIX, we won't be seeing the A380
Before I came to Singapore this year i spent about 5 days down in Melbourne...saw Albert Park and such..walked the pit lane and such and took them some nice pics (well to me at least) I tried to get to Sepang...got "lost" through the language barrier (i knew it was close to the airport but when i ended up at the LCCT at KLIA I went too far) anyways before my flight back to Singapore I zoomed in on my camera (fully) and at least got a few pics from afar..I've also walked part of the track at Monte-Carlo..man talk about cramped!
If i remember correctly, it was only the F1 race in Bahrain this year (thus far) that had a fly-by...albeit because it was sponsored by Gulf Air. Granted even when the Grand Prix du Canada was sponsored by Air Canada, we had no fly-bys. Then again what were we going to have?!? The Gimli Glider do a glide by?!? I wish i could find an aerial shot of people trying to cram inside Parc Jean-Drapeau (former Ile Ste-Helene) yellow line metro stop...at least in Singapore there are multiple in's and out's (somewhat)...Montreal, unless you are one of the lucky few...you are taking the 'tro off the island to the main island...unless you go to the casino and chill there for a few hours as the lul easies
But for sure I will do my best NOT to watch the race..because if i do...i will miss Singapore more than I do now...its bad enough I'm going through my pics of my Singapore trip this year especially the pics of me at the Pan Pacific looking out over the harbour from my hotel room patio (thank you SQ BPP)Last edited by hofo_mofo; 23 September 2008, 11:53 AM.I'm still waiting for my cookie as my first name is Kris

I think we'll be taking the shuttle ferry from Clarke Quay to the Flyer as our grandstand is the Marina Bay. Take the car and park around Clarke or Robertson.
p.s. Whilst against the rules of the ticket..... they are coming up (second hand) for sale all over the web.

I managed to live without ear plugs 2-days at Sepang and i was in a covered grandstand. Open grandstands here will be quieter without the sounds bouncing off the roof etc. but it depends on the individual. 29dB is quite a good percentage in an open environment.
I actually found the Japanese GT cars at Sepang to be a lot louder than F1 and there i did need plugs.
