  • Kindly Recommend A Las Vegas Hotel

Doing a search on hotels in Las Vegas turned up not much - the most promising were: this (not very), this and this (which left SPG on the 15th of January 2010).

So, I'm thinking of where to set up camp, and was about to spring for Skylofts ala the BIG one, when I decided to do some serious searching as there didn't seem to be enough value for the $1K they're asking. Coming from Asia, I'm just not 'feeling' a suggestion for the Mandarin Oriental and want something more Western.

I've been heavily considering the Cosmopolitan and Vdara. Just wondering if anyone has any opinions on either, or anywhere else to suggest?

I'm still toying with the idea of Skylofts, but for a whopping $1K a night, I don't think my luck's gonna hold out on Texas Hold'em to that extent (although if anyone can get a decent price with Skylofts, I'm all ears...). The budget is flexible, but we're hoping for the famous Vegas upgrade offers upon check-in! I guess anything up to $500 per night would work fine...

Will be staying two nights in LAS, and mattress-hopping is not preferred this time. Staying on the Strip is preferred!

Oh - and I've crossed out the Hilton option. SPG doesn't seem to have anything in the centre of the action either.

    Thanks in advance, guys!

I'd find it hard to pay $1K per night for the Skylofts when you could get a Grand Tower/West Wing room for $55 a night including 2 complimentary buffets.

Thanks Savage25, I had actually found that 2 nights ago, but I need the dates of 11-13 April.

kapitan: You'd have to wait til the 19th of April, and I think you have ways to get it even before that? I'm not going so soon... there may be others on SQTalk who can get it faster for you. (also was thinking of buying two units already)

I just love it when people spend a lot of time asking for my advice, then elect to not listen to any of it. Allow me clear up some things:
          • I never recommended Skylofts. It was when Kyo+ pushed me off my recommended properties did we arrive at that aging place -- which I believe was fifth on the list.
          • When quoting figures in the thousands, the budget I was given was, "I don't care how much it is..."
          • If anyone is considering MGM as one of their options, no need to seek advice.
          HUGE AL

If you want to be in the heart of the action then I think either the Bellagio or the Venitian/Palazzo are the best. The Four Seasons is a nice hotel and actually offers some peace and quiet but has direct access to the Mandalay Bay casino when you want to pick up the pace.

Have a look in this thread on Flyer talk http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/hotel...promos-37.html
I stayed at the Aria when I was there in September it which very nice but if I had my choice again I would stay at the Wynn or Encore.

Thanks Sethor, I nearly booked the Rio off that link, but have decided to ask a few questions first about that property over there. I've since bookmarked that page.

Now I'm doing research about which is the best Cirque Du Soleil show there is in LAS.

Aria is great if you get one of the bigger rooms!!! They are jumping up the tripadvisor rankings as they have sorted most of their teething issues out. I stayed a few months after opening and had no problems!

Vdara next door is nice but no gambling in the hotel

Encore @ Wynn is also beautiful!!!

Both at ends of the strip but Vegas is all about walking

Thanks FlyBoy, might have a few games of Hold'em but not really there for the gambling aspect. We mostly want to see the sights and sounds, see a show or two, head to the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam. The service aspect matters less as we're not in the rooms much, but the size/quality of the room does matter.

To address HUGE AL's post above, which I missed...

I did ask for advice, but I did not only ask the HUGE one for advice. His overwhelming recommendation, despite all my points below, was still go to for the MO. See below for reasons why I'm not going to book it. Others suggested on FT primarily, to consider the Cosmopolitan and I found that rather appealing. Others on this forum suggested some other places. I wasn't 'aware' of any local stigma about MGM properties; the closest I saw was a couple of people rubbishing some of their properties on FT. I don't spend much time on FT, so I thought I'd seek the opinions of those I trust on SQTalk.

For the record, I did carefully study AGAIN the MO's options (HUGE AL's recommendation), before and after posting this thread. I had also asked him for an updated review of Skylofts, of which he didn't really recommend it. After I re-read his TR on SQT and other reviews on FT, I re-concluded that it looked rather empty and simply not what I was after anymore in LAS, so I did take his advice and not book it. It wasn't the price only that turned me off, it was the property/emptiness in conjunction with the price. I still would love the Maybach ride, after all. For goodness' sakes, I've sprung for such prices at LRM PVG before.

Again, I stress, I see no point in booking the Mandarin Oriental (heck, we don't want something 'oriental' this trip, which I mentioned...) if there's something different that's more American/'Vegas' available, especially when we won't be needing much 'service' being that we're not at the hotel much at all except likely (very) late at night. We live in Asia, we experience Asian hospitality every day, this is not what I'm after in Vegas. There must be somewhere with at least 'pleasant' Western-ised service standards in LAS. I'd expect that from places like Wynn/Bellagio at least.

Yes, we want someplace large, but if we can get a 1,400sqft suite for $200-300 a night, that suits us fine also. Unfortunately, the closest I saw was at the Rio, somewhere not on the Strip.

I'm not so sure about Aria, but they had a promo when I started this thread. I'm not free to check now so I'll check it again later this evening. I really do want to be on the Strip, so that's disqualified serious consideration at the Rio now.

Also giving serious consideration now to the Harrah's properties. If all else fails, we may plonk down on the Bellagio as that has a reputation of some sort, plus it has the 'O' show by Cirque Du Soleil.

Then there's also all the other secondary considerations whose names I've heard of but interior I know nothing about: Treasure Island, King Arthur's, Mandalay Bay (know slightly more but still not much), Luxor, Caesar's Palace etc...

Anyway, it seems most people who have an opinion about Vegas have already said their piece. The trip/occasion is important enough that I want to pick the right place for the two nights we're there.

If I've missed out on properties I should consider based on the above criteria, I'd love to know. Four Seasons-type hotels and Encore don't really appeal at the moment so I haven't given those serious second-stage consideration (but I did spend quite awhile on both websites).

I'd vote for Parlour Suite at Encore @ Wynn for 1400 square feet for about $800US per night

                            OR

Aria 1 Bedroom Penthouse Panoramic Suite for about $750 per night for about the same size room.

Of course you can find much cheaper at other hotels but the rooms are older etc etc

Dude, just find yourself a good casino junket + a bag of cash, and get yourself comped at any highroller suite on the Strip. They'll even send the G5 for you if the bag is big enough.
