    • They have now decided to extend the curfew for just four more days instead of a week, taking them to this Friday.

      • Arrived this afternoon on TG from MUC. 2 of us in F, 9 in J and 99 in Y. My buggy ride and escort was unecessary as there was not a single person at immigration. I just went through the normal channels.

Now at the Hyatt that is running 19% occupancy. The sheer delight on the face of any staff you bump into is very nice, bless 'em. Traffic on Sukhumvit seems back to normal so the locals are back in the groove. How long it takes the tourists to come back in large numbers remains to be seen.

I thought they were shutting it down indefinitely. Glad to see it's still there.

What happened? No SGS stay this time? Or are you FFN running?

It was shut indefinitely because at the time nobody knew when the protests would end. It reopened on the 26th and I am a here to show a bit of support to the staff who have had a rough time of it recently and also the SGS would entail BarSu, and as I am flying to SYD at midnight I think it best to steer clear.

            • I'm hoping to be back next week but my company still has a no travel to Bangkok policy in force so I'll have to see if I can persuade them to lift it.

Well I couldn't resist so I popped in for a couple of drinks, and strengely enough they had just re-opened that night after being closed for a couple of weeks due to the unrest.

Keep an eye out for some promotions/offers for the World Cup. One rumour is a free room if you spend X amount in BarSu. We could have stayed there a few nights if they had this offer on a few weeks back.

I've just got the OK from work to go so I'll have to pop in this weekend and see if I can get a free room.

They're great now it's reopened. They had a hard time of it last few weeks while it was shut. They took turns working in the Living Room and they had to stay overnight in the hotel while curfew was on.

I was in there last night and three of the original team who don't work there now were in for a drink. Another quiet night.....

I told them you might be in this week. The offers don't kick in til the world cup starts unfortunately.

It wont be until Saturday before I'm there so the world cup has started by then. I wonder if they will back date the offer to say include any bar bills from the last month.

Do you know if they are going to be showing the games - there was talk when we were there of turning an unused room off to one side into a footie watching area.

                        • Hi All,

Man Flyer I was in Thailand while you were the other day but I was out of Bangkok in the middle of Issan. Why is it the timing never QUITE works out? About time we organise a DO in Bangkok, since so many of us travel here so often, and it might be a nice gesture to support Bangkok and the partially wiped out tourist industry?

Today I took a walk around the old red shirt camp and snapped a few photos of what I saw. It's very sad to see the burnt out buildings but great to see the place back to 'normal' with heavy traffic on the re-opened roads and lots of people out and about. I did notice fewer tourists than usual but the locals were out in force today, Paragon was very busy as was the entire Prattunam area.

If anyone is interested to see my photos, they are here:

Yes they are doing that. They are opening up the function room behind the dance floor (you walk past it from the lift to BarSu) to show them and are supposed to be creating a direct entrance from behind the dance floor to get there. They are also thinking of putting a temp screen in BarSu itself.

We'll drop there the same time one day I'm sure. Although I could do with cutting back on these overnighters as they are costing me a fortune.

I was in the Hyatt last week and you could see straight into the bit of Central World that had collapsed/burnt out from the lounge.

                            • Well I got myself the free room. Its THB6000 spend in one evening and your room for that evening is free. As I was not staying there they kindly have allowed me to stay tonight after the England game instead.

Yes they have turned the Cove into a room with sofas and big screen. Then in Bar Su itself they are showing the games on the screen behind the dance floor.

                              • So it has to be THB6000 all spent only at BarSu? Was thinking to combine it with dinner or something - will the promo be available on the 19th of June? Might come after LD#6
